This was my first book by Lisa Hall, and I'm sorry to say it didn't work for me. There are several reasons for this - one is the writing. The story switches between first person point of view for Emily and third person point of view for Rupert. However, when Emily thinks about Rupert, that, too, is in third person. It doesn't really become confusing, but it is a bit jarring.
I also found the characters and their voices to be juvenile, whereas Emily is in her twenties and Rupert is over forty.
Another thing that didn't work for me is that the characters were so unreliable it was impossible to get to know them, which meant I didn't really care about what would happen to either of them. And because I didn't really care, I didn't find the suspense to be suspenseful - at all.
I'm sure there will be readers who will enjoy The Perfect Couple, even if it was not the story for me.
