Summary:
We've all heard the story before. Those without will always fear magic in a city where magic is possible. In this case, the city has opted to ban magic and hunt all who dare be born with those magical properties.
This was the world Wynd was born into. Thankfully, there is also kindness in the world, as evidenced by the woman who found and raised him. Now, as a young teen, Wynd must go on the run and fight for the change he wants to bring to the world.
Review:
So, I'm a bit behind on the times, but I have to say that I am SO glad that I finally sat down and read Wynd Book One - because I loved this story. In fact, once I finish this review, I will hop online and request the next volume from my library.
Wynd is a magical adventure in pretty much any sense of the world. The setting is magical, albeit dangerous; the world is fascinating, the politics expansive, and the characters have so much potential. In short, it's the perfect recipe to get this reader hooked.
Much of Wynd Book One was focused on establishing the plot and the characters. That said, it is still quite rapidly paced. Things go from quiet yet tense to deadly with one flip of the page. Given the series' writer (James Tynion IV), that probably isn't too surprising.
For me, the best part of this tale is the characters. Or rather, the potential they hold. You can feel the Wynd is on the cusp of something, even in the beginning. Likewise, the potential between the characters is pronounced, and I cannot wait to see where it leads.
Long story short, Wynd Book One is awesome; go read it!
