What I loved about Sugar Rush was the candy feud and competition! At the beginning Dulcie is 100% convinced that Nick is just out to steal her recipe, even though she's not even sure that she's going to enter. But soon she realizes that Nick genuinely likes her and her chocolates, so she gives him a chance. They also swap candies and cupcakes! Of course, there has to be a big drama surrounding the competition which also puts their relationship in jeopardy. It's very predictable, but believable. I was definitely rooting for Dulcie to step up and blow the world away with what she can do!
Sugar Rush was lacking in the romance department though. There could have been a cute enemies to lovers vibe going on, but it just wasn't there. Once Dulcie realizes that Nick likes her, there's a bit of kissing and sneaking around since her grandmother and his father can't know they're cavorting with the enemy. But for the most part, their blossoming relationship is in the background, with most of the focus on the candymaking.
Sugar Rush was a cute, quick read but if you're looking for kissing (or more), this is not it. If you just want a fun read about candy, then I definitely recommend it.
