The hijacked super jumbo Royal World Airlines 798 airliner, flying non-stop from Sydney to London carrying over 500 people, crashes in fog on the approach to Heathrow whilst using the latest European satellite navigation system. Peter Talbert, electronics expert, is retained by CrossRisk Insurance to establish whether the cause was pilot error. Unusually, there are leaks of the voice recorder tape from the Air Accident Investigation Branch to the press, suggesting partying by the crew just before the flight. An Inquiry is called to take over the investigation of the accident. Talbert flies to Sydney and finds one of the girls at the party and on Maroubra beach, in the middle of the hot summer night, the girl helps him to track down what actually happened. Talbert's girl friend, a London solicitor is not too keen when Peter has to fly to Sydney a second time to persuade the girl to give evidence at the Inquiry in London but eventually Talbert is able to show the real sequence of events.
