Beth has been in love with Holt since she was just a young girl. And once she was old enough she told him that but he rejected her. I really liked how spunky Beth is and the way she cares for everyone around her. She is also determined and wants desperately to be able to help Holt solve the mystery of the gang who preys on the immigrants visiting Seattle.
Holt has a colorful past and doesn’t want to risk being the cause of his loved ones getting hurt ever again. And so he closes off his heart, or at least attempts to, determined to never marry. I enjoyed the way he had to learn to trust God and to overcome his past.
Author Regina Scott has a way with words that makes reading every word enjoyable. The ending was just perfect!
Here is a quote from the book:
She beamed at him as if she had no idea she’d boxed him into a canyon and was standing guard at the entrance. “Just think, I’ll be right at hand to help whenever you need.”
That was what he feared.
