Between them, the KGB and the IRA had quite an influence on Alastair's life. Had, of course, as neither organisation exists in any meaningful form nowadays. The world has moved on, and Alastair lives on, hoping that if he keeps his head down the world will not look back and see him quietly at home minding his own business. That was pretty much how things were nowadays. Quiet. Until the bodies started to turn up. Not even his bodies, not the ones he had tried to forget for so many years. Oh no, these were other bodies. Bodies with no right to be present, not here and certainly not now. The world has turned. It has seen Alastair, hidden and comfortable, and decided to throw up all over his life. There is really only one thing he can do. Run. Run for his life because if he doesn't, someone with a Mauser, Koch or Kalashnikov, depending on exactly which side they are on, is going to put him to sleep for a very long time indeed.
