Originally published by Cassell in six volumes, Churchill's war memoires were abridged in 1958 with Sir Winston's approval. This abridgement - reissued to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the war - contains all the essential elements of Churchill's personal story of the years between 1919 and 1945, including the Treaty of Versailles, Hitler's conquest of Poland, the fall of France and the Battle of Britain, D-Day, the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the establishment of the Iron Curtain in Europe. An epilogue covers the years from 1945 to 1957.
