He served on human resources task forces for two Minnesota Governors. He is a published author and co-founder of the Career Liftoff Interest Inventory, which to date has assisted over 80,000 individuals with career decisions, including helping students pick the correct major. Lewis is also the loving grandfather of a young girl named Courtney, who has a very imaginative mind. Years ago, his aunt and uncle had a waterfront property in Florida frequented by a Great Blue Heron he and his cousins named Aaron. Lewis told Courtney about the bird, and together they developed a story about what might happen if she brought Aaron to school. The story was illustrated by Larry Ruppert. Children's book author Lisa Bullard helped shape the story.
