Harry Wilkinson was born in Whitefield and educated at Stand Grammar School, he then studied at London and Sheffield Universities. He worked in libraries in Prestwich and Whitefield, retiring as Area Librarian in 1995. He has co-authored three books on the local history of the area, illustrated by old picture postcards.
