Roger Porkess is Project Leader for Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEl), an independent curriculum development body. In this role he has initiated many recent innovations in school mathematics and statistics and taken a leading role in their subsequent development He is often invited to contribute to national discussions and to speak at conferences.

Roger read mathematics at Cambridge and later took higher degrees at Reading and Keele. In the early part of his career he taught in secondary schools, both in the U.K. and overseas (Zambia, Ghana and Malaysia). During the early 1980s he was Head of Mathematics at Denstone College in Staffordshire and it was at that time that he became involved in curriculum development work and also became a Collins author.

Since then he has been involved in some eighty books, as author, co-author or series editor, covering the full range of secondary school mathematics and statistics, and also children's plays. He is also heavily involved in school examinations, particularly at A Level.

Roger now lives in Totnes, Devon. He is married with three grown-up children.
