Raine Blackwood used to dream of magic and adventure. Until the day her sister Alana disappeared and the role of future queen fell to her. She dreads the day her father dies and leaves the kingdom of Altria in her hands, but she's sworn to do anything for her people. When her father makes a sudden announcement, however, and tells her she'll be marrying a prince she's never met, Raine wonders whether she can go through with it.
Who is this prince, and why does he want to marry her? On a whim, Raine decides to slip out of the confines of the castle and find out for herself. She always wanted a life of adventure, after all.
With her trusted friend archmage Kirin Solus as her guide, Raine seeks the advice of an old seer and learns of a dark prophecy about the rebirth of the god of Chaos, one that can only be fulfilled by the murder of the last heir to Altria's throne. But does the prophecy mean her or is her sister Alana still alive?
