In this book, emerging long-term trends in the world economy are analysed to show their effect on the economic position of women in developing countries. Stressing the interlinkages between the macro and micro levels of the economy, the book approaches the subject from the perspective of both wage earning women and those in roles of unpaid labour such as housework and farmwork. The book provides the first methodological synthesis of these approaches to portray women in developing countries as active participants in development. Analysing the employment trends for women by geographical region and by sector the author assesses how the emergence of a modern international economy has affected the economic position of women.
