Shaken by revelations about her mother s past, Imogen decides to move to Taunton. A new job, a new house, a new start - and perhaps a new lease of life for a marriage that is sinking under the weight of unspoken resentment.

But rather than mending her marriage, Imogen puts it at risk in a reckless affair with a colleague. While her husband, Niall, throws himself enthusiastically into restoring their derelict farmhouse, she is obsessed with a man whose behaviour becomes increasingly irrational. By the time she realises what danger she is in, Imogen is too far down the slippery slope to stop.

Alarmed by her daughter s uncharacteristic behaviour, Nina starts her own investigation. When she discovers unsettling parallels with a past tragedy, she is determined to prevent history repeating itself
