The Brontes

by Kathryn White

Published 19 November 1998
This short biography covers the Bronte's childhood at Haworth parsonage, set on the edge of the Yorkshire moors, their trials as teachers and governesses, the sad decline of their only brother Branwell, and their tragic early deaths. They are also set within the context of 19th-century society, and the position of women and education in both their lives and novels is explored.
