James Berry explores several themes, most notably the experience of young Afro-Caribbean people in Britain today and the rich imagery provided by his Jamaican childhood. Other poems are about more universal subjects, such as teenage relationships, ghosts, relationships with family and friends, and the experience of living in the modern inner city.
