This book aims to present statistical process control (SPC) techniques and also to present some of the underlying theory and properties of the techniques. The book includes special emphasis on process industry problems, including one at a time data, and the discussion of between and within group variation and the effects of this on charting and on process capability analysis. The text considers the derivation of the properties of the techniques and the presentation of sampling by variables. This volume is intended for use in courses in Univeraities and Polytechnics, Some of the more mathematical sections and chapters are marked with an asterisk, and these can be ommitted at first reading. Two sets of exercises are presented at the end of the chapters; "A" explore the techniques themselves whereas exercises "B" are more mathematical and theoretical. The book is divided into two major areas - chapters 1-10 deal with charting and chapters 11 to 14 with sampling inspection.
