All consumer electronic devices, from VCRs to TVs to PCs, are made up of a series of electronic components that work together at various times and in various sequences to deliver the desired effect (i.e. rewind, record, save, print, etc.). These components include transistors, resistors, capacitors, motor drive controls, batteries, and so forth. Problems or breakdowns can be attributed to the failure of any one of these components. Knowing what each component is, its function, how to identify it, and how to test and repair it is crucial to the electronics professional and hobbyist alike.
