Think through history: study unit 4 - the twentieth century world
1 total work
This is the fourth book in a series of four, each one tailor-made for one of the first four study units of the new curriculum. A teacher's book accompanies each student's book and offers 60 copymasters with a wide range of activities for all abilities. Clear, lively pages are designed to interest and create excitement about the past, whilst an emphasis on a learning pattern, through careful steps, should lead all students, including low achievers, to a real understanding of history. The books employ a story-based approach - through story, historical characters illuminate the thinking of people in the past and bring it to life. Each section is structured as an enquiry, built around a key question of historical significance. Students are supported and lead through each enquiry and a simple format ensures that the flow is always clear. Students are encouraged to stop and think so that they understand each step and remember what they have learnt. A clear pattern of steps builds towards a final activity. A creative combination of outline and depth is at the heart of the course.
Overviews are integrated into depth studies to develop a historical understanding and ensure thorough content coverage. This helps students understand the big issues. Sources are used in context to provide evidence for each enquiry. Many of the enquiries lead to a piece of extended writing, where students select, sort and classify information and learn to connect the key issues.
