Kylix is Borland's new tool for developing desktop, database, and Web applications that run on the Linux operating system. It is based on their popular Delphi developing tool for Windows and allows programmers to build graphical user interfaces for Linux applications. Cuurently, Kylix is the only rapid application development (RAD) tool for Linux; up to now Linux developers have had to do difficult C/C++ Unix-style programming. The power of Kylix is that it makes it extremely easy to port Windows applications to Linux, allowing for cross-platform development. Kylix runs on the leading Linux distributions, including RedHat, SUSE and Mandrake, and is compatible with the KDE and GNOME desktop environments. This book covers version 2, which added XML/SOAP functionality.
