Using the stratified deposits of Neolithic and Bronze Age date excavated in Area 16 East Runnymede Bridge, this volume takes a look at the nature of refuse on occupation sites. It addresses questions relating to refuse generation, its reworking and the conditions under which it came to accumulate. A critical view is taken of the applicability of the term "midden" to archaeological deposit and conclusions are drawn on ceramic developments, the representation of animal remains and the changing activity status of this part of the site.
