Federico Garcia Lorca was born in Fuente Vaqueros in 1898. A poet and dramatist, he was also a talented musican. He studied in Granada and in 1919 went to Madrid. In 1929 he left Spain for New York. Just after the outbreak of the Civil War in 1936 he was shot by Nationalist Partisans in Granada. His murder, combined with those aspects of his work which correspond to romantic foreign notions about Spain, helped to establish his poetic reputation abroad. This book contains a selection of his poems.
