Detective Inspector Jeremy Faro's stepson, Dr Vincent Beaumarcher Laurie is to marry Grace Langweil. Faro and Vince are invited to a meal with the Langweil family and all appears to be going well. The only flaw is the obvious ill - health of Grace's father, Cedric, who dies in the night.
