This book is a practical guide to the issue of assessing pupils' language performance in Key Stage 2 of the National Curriculum (NC). It looks closely at record-keeping in language and literacy in the context of the NC. It also stresses the role of record-keeping in NC assessement, and its importance in the process of gathering evidence of achievement. This book aims to give a theoretical framework for observation in recording children's language and literacy progress, to present examples of teacher's records that reflect this framework, and to answer the kinds of questions about organization and management that generally arise when record-keeping is under discussion.
