This text provides an account of the struggles which led to the founding of the United States of America. It begins by looking at the diverse nature of the 13 colonies before the revolution and then goes on to look at the causes and course of the revolution itself. Supported by a wide range of contemporary sources, a study is also made of the roles played by women, black Americans and Indians. The final chapters deal with the impact and legacy of the revolution in Britain and other areas of the world. The book is accessible to a broad ability range with questions and activities in line with National Curriculum requirements.
