Maureen Frew is ready to sell her story; reporter Max Chard's newspaper is about to pay big money for it. Only it's never that simple, is it . . . For Maureen and her boyfriend Stan Defoe are in protective custody after Maureen's evidence at the Zeller Maine trial. Seven of the gang - who netted £5 million from the safe deposit robbery - are found guilty thanks to her, another three are shot dead, and two - Dave Stretch and Barry Frew - are assumed to be serving their time on the beaches of the Costa del Crime. Max is dispatched, in great discomfort, to the couple's secret hideaway to get the exclusive. But once there he quickly realises there is more to this particular story than meets the eye . . . And perhaps, while he's at it, Max could explain the role he's playing in the life of Cindy Reilly, a buxom blonde who is suddenly appearing in the press with unerring regularity . . . ?
