This book is written for trainee teachers and teachers who are planning to be subject leaders of English. It gives an overview of what the role entails and offers suggestions on how to go about it as effectively as possible. Each chapters aims to reflect key skills and issues and is written around specific National Standards for Subject Leaders as set out in the Teachers' Standards Framework. There are questions throughout to encourage reflection on future professional development, and references to literature and research are included to help teachers develop in their role.
