Martha Wentworth York has already lost her husband to the war, and now her brothers and sisters have gone to France. Alone, Martha devotes herself to her hometown of Canelas, Texas. Then renowned photographer Tom Fleming comes to town on a cross-country search for a woman whose picture will inspire the soldiers abroad. And Martha is perfect! But his plan is complicated by her refusal to be photographed as well as an attraction neither admits.
