A catalogue covering all the Italian paintings in the National Gallery before 1400. These paintings were peviously catalogued in "The Earlier Italian Schools", along with works of the 15th century. In this revised volume the previous entries have been thoroughly updated, new acquisitions have been catalogued and a number of pictures have been re-attributed. The catalogue entries on each painting include details of condition, technique and provenance. There are also comparative illustrations, including reconstructions of altarpieces.
