The United Nations played a central role in the Salvadorian peace process, combining peacemaking, peace-keeping and especially post-conflict peace-building. The United Nations and El Salvador, 1990-1995, is a chronicle of one of the most comprehensive operations in the history of the United Nations - the United Nations Observer Mission in El Salvador (ONUSAL). Now, for the first time, the texts of more than 100 key documents relating to this mission have been brought together in a single volume. Complementing the documents are a detailed chronology and an introduction by Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali, which offer a complete account of the Organization's multi-faceted work as mediator, human rights monitor, peace-keeper and electoral observer.
