READ ALL ABOUT IT! is a series of books which tackle major issues of the day and are designed to look and read like newspapers. Each book focuses on a particular issue and uses the newspaper format and structure to explore its many different facets, with headline articles, editorial comment and sections such as business and sport. Unlike most children's non-fiction issues books, each book advances definite, subjective opinions in some sections (e.g. the editorial page, letters), a fact made absolutely clear on its back cover. RACISM considers the many issues surrounding racial discrimination, from the Stephen Lawrence case to the underrepresentation of black actors in the theatre. ALCOHOL looks at the impact of this socially acceptable drug on our society, from drunken violence to heart disease. Studying newspapers and appreciating the difference between 'fact' and 'opinion' are all part of the Literacy Strategy, as well as skills that all children are now-encouraged to acquire as part of PSHE and Citizenship studies. This original and provocative series will help children really understand the issues but at the same time appreciate how the media presents the issues to us.
