This book represents a second course in systems analysis for business and computer science students (undergraduate and postgraduate), and practitioners. The reading lists on analysis courses tend to be long owing to the many methodologies and techniques and the principles and philosophies behind them. The book aims to create order out of this chaos, providing in one volume, an overview of the major methodologies available, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses, and pointing out situations where each one might be particularly useful.
Taking a pragmatic approach, this text examines the human and technical aspects of information systems and their development. This edition has four stages, and covers object-orientation, stakeholder analysis and critical thinking in a way not possible in the first edition. There is an emphasis on business processes and quality which informs the book as a whole. Other features include: a major case study running throughout the text, with mini-case studies at the end of each chapter; a multiple perspective of the IS development methods; actual field projects; and examples to explain the techniques.
