Problem Solving

by Jill Bennett and Roger Smith

Published 1 January 1900
This is part of the "Teacher Timesavers" series of books that include photocopiable resources to provide the primary teacher with at least 134 time-saving sheets for general day-to-day use. This book offers a range of theme-based activities, for both individual and collaborative work. While the activities are in line with many of the requirements of technology in the national curriculum, they also help to develop children's problem-solving skills in all areas of the curriculum. Many of the activities are suitable for the whole primary age range with differentiation by outcome rather than by task. The themes are clothes, entertainment, journeys, houses and homes, communication and food. The author was winner of the 1990 Eleanor Farjeon Award for her contribution to children's literature.

Published September 1988
Festivals play an important part in primary schools, both as part of a multicultural ethos which embraces both the curriculum and also assemblies, and as a significant part of RE. This collection provides, in one easily accessible volume, poems, stories and songs appropriate for a whole range of seasonal and religious festivals and celebrations. The material is arranged by the calendar year and covers festivals of the six major religions (Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism). As well as traditional material there will be newly commissioned contributions from distinguished writers such as Wes Magee, Judith Nichols, Grace Hallworth, Isaac Bashevissinger and Ruskin Bond.
