Replacing the term "CCD array" with "solid state array" throughout the text reflects a braoder scope allowing for greater flexibility in sensor type (such as CCD, CID, and CMOS). Many chapters have been rewritten, including expanded sections on antibloom drain, dark current reduction, spectral responsivity, dynamic range, and signal-to-noise ratio.
