Policing draws upon a review of recent literature and ongoing research pertaining to innovations in policing, particularly in North America, the United Kingdom, Southern Africa, South America and Australia. It explores conceptions, institutions and technologies for policing in the Anglo-American world since the early twentieth century.
Policing is a social invention that is undergoing enormous challenges and changes. The authors trace these changes and the challenges that have prompted them, especially those that have taken place since the mid-twentieth century. They also address the theoretical and practical governance debates within a global context and will attract a readership beyond those with a particular interest in 'policing'.
