Churchyards are havens for wildlife - islands of vegetation within arable or industrial landscapes which have remained basically unchanged for centuries. This guide discusses the history and natural history of churchyards. It shows how churchyards today are the result of very long term interactions between people, plants and animals. It describes the trees, wildflowers, birds, bats, butterflies and moths, dragonflies and other creatures which inhabit them. The book also explains why it is important to manage and conserve churchyards and gives guidelines for the upkeep of churchyards to encourage wildlife.
