It is Fuzzypeg the Hedgehog's birthday and he is given many special gifts. His mother tells him that now he is bigger and braver he is allowed out on his own but he must be careful because there are dangers about. When Fuzzypeg doesn't return home that night the animals know that he must be in trouble and they all gather together in a big effort to save him.
One evening, Hare rushes home with news of a party he's seen -- little Grey Rabbit and Squirrel hurry out to take a look at the wonderful sight, and return home determined to have their own party! But how do you throw a party? Armed with Wise Owl's 'how to give a party' book, the preparations begin. There are Forfeits, and Invitations, and Thimbles, and RSVP and Iced Cake to remember. Hare takes charge of Turn the Trencher, and little Grey Rabbit busies herself writing invitations. Then there is food to prepare -- what a mixing, stirring and tasting! Finally the guests arrive in their best clothes, and the fun begins. Even Wise Owl enjoys himself!though he doesn't quite play by the rules of Hunt the Thimble! The series is being relaunched, tying in with a new, beautifully animated television adaptation, and will delight children as much today as when it was first published seventy years ago. Late one night, just before May Day, Hare steals into the village and dances around the Maypole. He tells little Grey Rabbit and Squirrel excitedly all about it the next morning. "Oh, can we have a Maypole too?" begs Squirrel. Soon, all the woodland animals are preparing for the wonderful day, making garlands and crowns of spring flowers. But Wise Owl tells them that they need to have the most special flower of all, the Crown Imperial, for the sceptre. Who will be brave enough to go to the village to find one? AGE 4-8

Little Grey Rabbit lives with Squirrel and Hare in a little house on the edge of a wood. It's March, and Hare is feeling as mad as only a March Hare can feel. So off he dashes into the village to see what he can find. There are untold delights -- jars of sweets, dolls, and wooden horses, but best of all, eggs made of chocolate with sugar flowers and ribbons tied round them. Hare decides to surprise his friends on Easter morning with these wonderful things! When he does, his cleverness is greatly admired -- but then Hare has always known just how clever he is! AGE 4-8
Squirrel, Hare and little Grey Rabbit have all caught colds. Whilst they suck butterscotch and sip blackcurrant tea, their friends bustle about bringing remedies. What they really need, though, says Mrs Hedgehog, is a change of air! "They ought to have a day at the sea," advises Wise Owl. "You'll get rid of your sneezes when you feel the sea breezes." So, in a blue caravan drawn by Duke the horse, Hare, Squirrel, little Grey Rabbit and all their friends set off for the sea. At journey's end, when they feel the warm sand under their feet and the sea air in their fur and feathers, all the animals are filled with joy. Little curling waves sing to Grey Rabbit, Squirrel goes paddling and Hare braves a swim. But the seaside is not quite as restful as it appears: wild gulls and cliff-top climbing make everyone's hearts beat faster. At the end of a happy day, as the setting sun casts a golden pathway in the waves, the party of sleepy friends clamber into the caravan, and Duke takes them home. AGE 4-8
