Consists of 20 enquiry-based chapters on a range of issues, all of which have at their core the interactions between people and the world around them. The topics covered have been chosen to complement "People and Environments" and for their relevance to issue-based syllabuses. Case studies are drawn from developed, developing and Eastern European countries, and are grouped into five themes the challenge of natural environments (coasts, pollution, deserts and glaciers), the use and misuse of natural resources (energy, forests, oceans and seas), cities and urban environments (SE Asia, E Europe, W Europe and the UK), development issues (aid, tourism, refugees, women and land), and the impact of manufacturing industry (M4 corridor, Hungary and the multinationals).
