This is an information book about birthdays. It starts with the familiar concept of a birthday and looks at different ways that children from different cultures may celebrate their birthdays. It follows with a hands-on activity in which children can make a pop-up birthday card. The book then looks at a timeline of Nelson Mandela's life as an example of someone who has had many birthdays. Special birthdays, like 27 April (Freedom Day) and New Year, in different cultures and religions follow.

Finally the learners can read how to make a kite and follow a set of instructions to fly the kite they have made.

The Big Day

This is the story of a family's preparations for a wedding. The story is told by the younger brother of the bride. He listens to people talking about the wedding, he helps when the dress is being made and he gets measured for a suit of his own. The day before the wedding he helps his dad put up the wedding tent and he counts out chocolates and arranges chairs. Finally, the Big Day comes and he can't believe how beautiful his big sister looks in her wedding dress.
