Technology 2 is the second book in a series of four books for secondary school students studying Technology Studies. It allows students to learn through practical application of knowledge gained through their ongoing learning in the technology education area. It involves students in researching, designing, making, and finally judging the success of their work.

This is the first of four books for lower secondary school students in the Australian Technology Studies series. Students are encouraged to apply the knowledge gained during their technology studies to a range of practical situations. They are involved in the researching, designing, making, and evaluating processes in relation to a wide variety of materials – wood, plastics, textiles, food and metals. Technology 1 examines a number of simple and more complex mechanical and electronic systems, such as computers, which are often taken for granted.



Materials, Design and Technology introduces the secondary student to technology studies. Although specifically for the VCE Technology Studies units it assumes little if any knowledge is held by the student. It introduces the history of technology and its impact on Australia in the past and into the future. The work requirements for VCE are examined and are written in a way to be suitable to technology students in any state. The problem solving process is the key to this approach to technology studies and the importance of this is brought out by the emphasis on the design process. Students are guided step by step through the design process, models and their own research and problem solving. This book on technology studies is written specifically for students to help them cope with the demands of new technology subjects such as those in VCE Design and Technology and VCE Materials and Technology.

Metals and Technology

Metals and Technology is one of the titles appearing in the Australian Technology Studies series aimed at upper secondary school students. The first book in this series, Materials, Design and Technology, introduces the student to the design process which has now been incorporated into the national curriculum subject design and technology. This book applies the design process to metals. It covers the problem solving and design processes involved in working with metals and also includes the more traditional areas of metalwork - tools and equipment, structures, manufacturing and construction. The book is designed to be used in conjunction with Materials, Design and Technology.
