Following the recommendation by the National Literacy Strategy for use of 10-15 minute lesson starters, Hodder English Starters is a flexible resource bank offering a wealth of ideas for Key Stage 3 teachers. The selection of starter activities revises, consolidates and extends the basic skills specified in the Framework of Objectives, and each starter adopts an interactive and explicit teaching approach for the whole class. Specific instructions for the teacher are followed by photocopiable/OHT materials and activities, providing the teacher with all the resources required for that particular lesson starter. This extensive guidance helps teachers to effectively deliver the new Framework Objectives within the National Literacy Strategy. Hodder English Starters: Word Level looks specifically at the Word Level Objectives and teachers are able to select activities to fit into any course or scheme of work they may be following. Sections include the teaching of vowels, plurals, suffixes and roots, through to homophones, word families, link words and language variation.
