This volume is one of series designed to illustrate and explore a range of ways in which scientific knowledge is generated and techniques are developed and applied. They are intended for students at A level and in first year higher education courses. Working from a base of "common core" A level knowledge and principles, each book demonstrates how that knowledge and those principles can be extended in academic terms, and also how they are applied in a variety of contexts which give relevance to the study of the subject. One of the main features is the way in which each text shows science and scientists "in action". This particular volume looks at the applications of electronic sensors and describes their use in such varied sectors of life as chiropody and dentistry and for making buttons and paper and in bottling drinks and food inspection. The applications of electronic sensors to real situations are based on case studies which have been solved electronically. Actual problems and solutions aim to encourage students to develop a more inquisitive approach to the physical laws involved and appreciate how thesse laws can be utilized for out benefit.
