This text is designed to support the foundation stage and Early Learning Goals in England, and early years education in the rest of Britain. It is also fully in line with the NLS recommendations for Reception. The text is separated into seven teaching units, each of which focus on specific early learning goals and key objectives from the NLS. Using play-centred activities and themes common to early childhood, each unit provides: a progressive series of activities to support children's development from pre-school to Reception; a high level of support for the practitioner, including questions to sustain and develop the activities; an assessment framework that relates directly to the Early Learning Goals and the key objectives for Reception; and full planning and curriculum guidance.
