A picture book with a strong multi-cultural interest, retelling the story of a traditional folktale by an award-winning author, being the story of Princess Gorilla, whose father decreed that whoever could drink a whole barrelful of vinegar could marry his beautiful daugther. Verna Aardema is tha author of more than seventeen children's books and is well known for her retelling of African folktales, including "Why Mosquitos Buzz in People's Ears", which won the 1976 Caldecott Medal awarded by the American Library Association, and "Who's in Rabbit's House?" published by The Bodley Head in 1980. Victoria Chess was born in Chicago and has illustrated numerous American children's books.
