A naked baby, barely able to walk, becomes separated from its parents during an attack by the ferocious tiger Shere Khan. Adopted by a wolf pack and named Mowgli, the child is raised in the ways of the jungle. Baloo the bear and Bagheera the black panther help to educate the "man cub", but to other animals, such as the lawless,
treacherous Monkey-People, he is a prized target. Shere Khan, meanwhile, is biding his time. He turns the wolf pack against Mowgli, hoping he will finally have his prey... As well as relating Mowgli's strange and exciting adventures, The Jungle Book tales introduce a wealth of other memorable characters, including Toomai, the young elephant-handler, and heroic mongoose Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.
