This is the third in a series featuring the marines of the Special Boat Squadron. An English doctor - a veteran of Britain's special forces - disappears in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and then a 'tourist' who turns out to be a Soviet submarine expert is shot dead in Florida. The SBS are sent into action.

As Iraq's nuclear research and development programme continues, a defecting scientist is assassinated in Jordan. A second defector contacts the West but disappears before telling what he knows. Investigating British squadrons soon find themselves in a corner of the old Soviet Union.
