Huldén has distinguished himself as philologist (studies on onomastics, dialectology, and Carl Michael Bellman) and poet. Since 1973 he has been the official resident of the "Poet's Home" at Provoo, Finland, an honour making him,as it were, the poet-laureate of Finland's Swedish-speaking minority. A central figure in Sweden's culture, he is also an author of cabarets, editor of scholarly texts, and translator. This is the first translation of Huldén'shumorous, allusive verse, and it was carried out in close collaboration with Huldén himself by George C. Schoolfield, professor of German and Scandinavian at Yale University.
