Book 2

A companion volume to "Andrea Bonaiuti", this text offers detailed information on the work of Don Silvestro dei Gherarducci, a celebrated Italian book illustrator of the late-14th century, and the impact of his gothicizing tendencies on the Giottesque tradition. The author argues that, along with Andrea Bonaiuti, Don Silvestro dei Gherarducci contributed greatly to the renewal of the predominantly Giottesque trend of Andrea Orcagna and his brothers, and to the creation of a foundation for the international Gothic in Florence, for the art of Agnolo Gaddi, Lorenzo Monaco, and others. The text contains an introductory study, a catalogue and a series of black and white illustrations.
