In 12thcentury Kyoto, the bandit Yamato encounters Dunstan, carrying with him two life-size figures. They are the Karakûri Dôji, mechanical boys named Ultimo and Vice that embody pure good and pure evil. Fast forward to modern times, where an average schoolboy, also named Yamato, comes across Ultimo in a glass case in an antique shop.
