A selection of Aesop''s most popular and less er-known parables are brought together with examples of the work of some of the greatest illustrators of the 19th and 20 th centuries, including Arthur Rackham, Edwin Noble and Rand olph Caldecott '

Since they were first published more than 150 years ago, the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen have been enjoyed by generations of children. The earliest editions were illustrated by Danish artists, especially Vilhelm Pedersen and Lorenz Forelich, but as the popularity of Andersen's work spread, many notable illustrators endeavoured to meet the challenge of depicting the often fantastic images he had created. This edition features a selection of Andersen's best loved fairy tales, including such favourites as "The Ugly Duckling", "The Little Mermaid", "The Princess and the Pea", and "Thumbelina". These stories are accompanied by pictures by illustrators from the 19th and 20th centuries, including Mabel Lucie Attwell, Edmund Dulac, William Heath Robinson, Walter Crane, Arthur Rackham and Randolph Caldecott.
