"The Year is 2093. The world is grey and infected, unsafe for human inhabitation. We live sheltered, under The Veil. I live a life just like yours. Until the day that all changes.Who am I? I'm Anna.
But who is this man who claims to know me…who knows more about me than I do? He's shown me a glimpse beyond my world into one I have been told doesn't exist. Into a world I've been told doesn't even have the CHANCE to exist. Do I trust him? If I do it could cost me everything. My family, my friends. My life. He says he knows a different way, a better way. Do I risk everything to follow a stranger? Do I dare look with my own eyes? Do I risk being deceived? What if the life I am already living is the deception?"
From the ashen past and out of the present world the few and the outcast take a stand for what they believe. For what they have seen with their own eyes— and know to be true.
These few know that the world has been lied to, lulled into a dangerous sleep. They've become a drowsy people, ignorant of The Monarch's ominous design. Her memories stolen and her past rewritten, will Anna be able to lift the shroud of lies, to escape the confines of a life she has always known and accepted to be true? And if she does...will she survive to see the truth revealed?

The Veil is falling. The city lies silent, encased in utter darkness. We’re running blind. We have nowhere to go. It’s not safe anywhere. We can’t trust anyone but ourselves. So, when help comes from an unpredictable source, we’re forced to make a risky decision to save ourselves and the people we love. And then the unexpected happens, shattering our plans. A new enemy emerges, forged from the Monarch’s new serum;

While pieces of the sky fall around us, we run for our lives. Fear has its grip on us. My heart aches for those we have lost. But we have to keep going. We can’t stop—not even if we’re wounded or dying— or they’ll catch us. How long can we survive like this? I don’t know. I keep running…”

Something is coming; something she cannot control. Imprisoned, endangered, divided. Loyalties are tested and broken. Something approaches; something that cannot be stopped. It’s already begun.
Running. Hiding. Fearing for our lives. This is what came of it. We’re trapped here. Prisoners. Separated from people we love, guessing at what might have happened to them. If they’re even alive. I’m haunted by dreams, nightmares that feel so real. I see Ryan in all of them. What does it mean? What should I do? How do we stay alive?

Something wildly out of our control. We don’t know what it is. How could we? We’re isolated, yet surrounded by thousands of strangers who might join us or turn on us at any second. Loyalty is hard to find. Trust is easily broken. The truth is impossible to discern. All I can do—all any of us can do— is pray that we’re ready when it comes. But how can we ever prepare for this?”
